Updates and Meeting Time

Alright, so a few updates. We are going to be meeting today at 7:00pm in the green room/lounge area of library on the third floor. Being on a little bit of a short notice I couldn't reserve a room so we'll make do with whats there. This is going to be our last meeting since next week people will have finals to study for.

I've decided not to do another public screening for December, but instead I'd rather have it be a club thing where everyone interested would go my house or the lounge area of Madara or Tuolumne to marathon through a series.

It's just too much of a hassle to get permission on such a short notice, especially with finals coming up soon I doubt that anyone outside the club would even show up to the screening, which would defeat the purpose of getting permission in the first place.

I do, however, want to talk to everyone in the groups to outline a general plan for next year on what we want to get done. As I said before I plan on making the series we are making a multi-year project and the AnimeExpo planning finalized, which will be our two major topics for this meeting. Incase we don't finish the AnimeExpo planning today I suggest everyone who wants to go together get aol instant messanger (aim) if they haven't already and schedule days were we can all get online and finish the plan.

If I didn't mention it before, SacAnime Convention is coming up. It's a convention hoisted at Scottish Rite Center 6151 H Street (Near CSUS). It's a small convention, but it will have the english voice actors Vic Mignogna who is the voice of Edward Elric from Full Metal Alchemist and now the english voice of Tamaki from Ouran High School, Laura Bailey who does the voice of Lust in Full Metal Alchemist and Tohru Honda from Fruits Basket, and Travis Willingham who does the voice of Roy Mustang and Ginko from Mushishi.

They do have interesting schedule set up to keep everyone from getting bored though I'd have to admit without friends it can get boring really fast.

P.S. Good luck on finals (O.O) Kirby knows your pain.

Fruits Basket Screening & More! (^.^)

Hey Guys! This is Darwin your club president. I apologize for the late notice, but just a reminder we are having a Fruits Basket showing in the california room for the first five episodes from 5:00pm to 8:00pm contrary to the 6:00pm-8:30pm we posted on the flyers. It's was a change from the Housing office so yup, we are bumped up a little bit.

Also while on the topic for screenings, we are planning on showing Full Metal Panic Fumoffu on the first week of December, but incase we can't get the rights we'll show Gunslinger girl instead. I think we are allowed to show episodes during the anime club meetings, but I'll do a bit more digging into the club membership we are in. So far we've been showing a large amount of trailers we got from the RightStuf program for the general meetings.

Also there will be no manga meeting this week since we are showing the screening today!
P.S. People still interested in the film group I'll be doing some practice mock fights this Sunday for the film meeting in the den at 3:00pm.

P.P.S. Have a good thanksgiving d(^.^)b

Anime Club Updates

So, rehashing on everything that has happened. We'll be having marathons I suppose whenever we have free time. So far the marathons have just been decided at the meetings. I plan on having a public marathon in November 15th of the firsts three episodes fruits baskets. Also we are now part of the funimation anime club program! Ya! XD, so we'll be getting dvds each month to show for screenings.

Other then that the series that the club is working on is coming along quite nicely, we've finished most of the first episode, and I've outlined the second episode. I've talked with the Martial Arts club over the boffer weapons and they were willing to help set up an event were we would teach people how to use weapons.

Just on a sidenote for the film group, we have storyboard meetings on Saturday from 3:00pm onward during manga discussion in the den if it's available. That's it for now! XD.

4th Anime Club Meeting

Hey Everyone! So updates from this meeting, we are going to start casting for the film group so anyone who wants to be in the film we need you guys to come to the meetings within the next two weeks or else...you'll be an "extra" <(O.O)>. The storyline right now is a complicate plotline involving a freshmen entering college and the three clans that control the campus.

Next week the Nikkei Union will be doing the sushi night so whomever can come help out for that please come! It's on Wednesday from 7:00pm-9:00pm. We will be making sushi and selling them to whomever comes.

Dance group will be meeting after every general meeting, I'd like to showcase our dance whenever we are ready, hopefully before the end of this semester! I was thinking of doing a progressive thing where we show each meeting how funny we are in the beginning and near the end how awesome we get after practice XD.

I'll be attempting to update our unofficial boffer group to official status within the next few weeks that way it'll be part of our club activities. It would be cool to wack each other for a club activity right? Haha, well hopefully, I would like to get something like this http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=WL--yVDLDcc going on where we have large scale battles! And maybe renact some anime fights along the way XD.

We did mention having a guest speaker for an information night, where they would present the history of anime and answer any questions anyone has about the genre. I think it would work out since a lot of people at school still don't know what anime is!

Also! I thought it be interesting to have an anime game night! We could spice up the games by adding some fighting games and maybe get some DDR for some of the meeting! Haha, well DDR is sortive in anime ---> Yugioh reference. I'm sure somewhere along the way we'll be having prizes like plushies for competitions XD.

Hm...oh! So one of our members was kind enough to give the club a lot of manga to sell for fundraising. When I get around to it I'll put a list up, but...it's a lot! I'll be bringing some to next meeting to auction off(hehe) at the next meeting. They each cost 4$ (O.O)

<(O.O)> I'm forgetting something again. Can't remember!!! Ahhh!!! <(O.o)>
Well, if I remember I'll update everyone.

Oh, Marathon! >.> Not quite what I forgot, but important nevertheless. I'm thinking of splitting the marathon into two groups on seperate days. The next meeting we'll be having sign ups for which days are best for you. The days I'm planning on having it are next week on Saturday and Sunday at someone's dorm. These days aren't set, however, so if we find enough people free on Tuesday or Thursday we might move it there or move it next a week if people want it next week. If you can't make it to the meeting email us which day your available to watch 5-6 hours of anime. We'll be going through the anime called Minami-ke for this month's marathon.

I'll keep you guys update on the location of the marathon as time passes along so check your email and our website! Whew, that wasn't too bad for this week XD.

Sincerely,
President of the SOA Brigade "Who can also dance like a girl if needed"
Darwin Castro

Anime to do List

Anything regarding next semester's planning will go here.

First of all, in regards to public anime music videos, we aren't going to be able to show the music videos. Upon research, amv's fall under a gray area of the law were it's deemed illegal, but hasn't provided enough attention for action to be taken.

On another note, since we have to purchase a license to show anime to the public future anime showings will be done in the privacy of a dorm or house. As of right now, it'd be nice to get a list of shows people would like to watch this upcoming semester. The same goes with anime music videos. There will be a seperate thread for requests and discussion of what people want in this year's anime marathons.

This years plan, which may or may not include the following, looks like this:

1. Anime Dance (Costume Party on Halloween) "Mascarade" <--Pardon my spelling if I spelled that incorrectly.
2. Anime Movie Night (Will need to buy license, possible candidates so far are "5 centimeters per second", and "Afro Samurai".)
3. Animeclub Movie (A short skit or play where we make up a story and make a movie out of it.)
4. Learn how to Sow! (Host an event were we teach people how to sow clothes.)
5. Group Cosplay (How many people? Which anime?)
6. Anime Club Covnention Field Trip(s) (AnimeExpo planning, Fanime, etc...)
7. Build a Gundam (Build a child-sized model of a Gundam. Ambitious and viable provided we buy all the materials and some carpentry tools.)
8.Fan dubbing/Parodies (Take out a video clip and add our own twist to that video clip.)
9. Lucky Star Dance (Dance the lucky star opening song)

And with the end of the list, new ideas and suggestions are welcome! Go! Go! Go! =D.

Things that have gone and things to come!

Hey! Anime fans!
The anime marathon for Mushishi this Saturday March 1st was a success! We had a bit of a marathon of Saikano the night before as well so it surprisingly became a weekend of anime straight through XD!

The meeting is this Wednesday March 5th in the Green Room of the Library otherwise known as the huge lounge area with the fish tanks on the third floor. It will start at 7:30pm for questions/discussion and at 8:00pm the meeting will official begin. Check out our website soabrigade.blogspot.com! Lucky Star dance practice will begin this Sunday. I’ll attempt to book the California room since we will need to practice using a large screen.

Here are some topics we will be discussing, might be more later, for the meeting:
1. We will need to get costumes for Asian fest. We will have second vote to solidify our decision on a group cosplay, whether that be school uniforms or an anime like bleach.
2. We will have a discussion period for manga Absolute Boyfriend for opinions and questions. Choose next manga to discuss.
3. There will be a vote for the ICC representative for the club. More information will be announced in the club meeting.
4. Members will be assigned tasks such as gathering data, sending mails, making posters, or helping out in incoming events.
5. Discussion of making a club amv, and a club video similar to episode 0 of Haruhi Suzumiya.
6. Short reminder/update on Club Challenge.
7. Discussion about incorporating video games into the club.
8. Next Anime to Marathon.
9. Anime Convention Fananime May 23rd - May 26th
10. Asian Fest, activities
11. Discussion about Food! Food seen in anime precisely XD.
12. Mabinogi game discussion. Official club game? See the below links for more info/reason why.

The Mushishi marathon shall be held in Melanie's, Melissa's, and Hilary's dorm tomarrow, March the 1st from 1:00pm to whenever you want to stop XD! Their room number is Merced Hall 179. If you need further information just contact me XD!

Practice for the Lucky Star Dance will be each Sunday starting March 9. Start stretching for that high kick XD!

Our costume's/activities we are going to do for Asian fest

Discussion of Absolute Boyfriend and picking a new manga to read
Deciding on a ICC representative, ICC is the interclub congress. ICC is like a bigger club that can allocate funds for the clubs involved in it.

Possibility of making a club amv or a club video shoot similar to episode 0 of Haruhi Suzumiya.

Today's Anime Club Meeting January 31st

Alright this is a update on what was discussed and done today.

To learn about AMV/Fandub here is the website. Basically ask on the forums people will answer! The website also has a variety of amv's you can download for free.

Manga discussion read up on the manga Claymore at least up to the first chapter. Discussion will be offered next meeting. Access to this manga can be found on
(http://www.onemanga.com/Claymore/)

The anime that has been chosen to marathon will be Mushishi, the program will run for one or two days depending on how much time we will need to finish the series. The marathon will begin three weeks from today. There will be 30 minute breaks for lunch and 30 minutes for dinner should it be required. 10 minute bathbreaks will be placed every three episodes. The day has yet to be decided.

Group Cosplay Theme is "Bleach"! So decide on the character you'll cosplay as asap. My aunt is a international marketer she can get us tailor made costumes much cheaper than ebay etc... I'm assuming the price of a full suit costume to be 20-50$ depending on how elaborate the decorations.

Okay for you guys who like discussing anime and don't like to wait for meetings (I'm guilty of this) here is a anime discussion website about anime and anything else thats random. Sign up and have fun! There's also a extensive Role-playing system here so if you love writting stories or enjoy a good read this is the place to be. BTW the role-playing section has a tutorial where someone helps you improve grammar & syntax to make you a better role-player. Made me wish I had this instead of WRT 10.
Anime/Manga/RP website (http://www.animeleague.net/forums/)

For convenience I'm changing the meetings times to wednesdays instead of thursdays. The time will be from 7:30pm-10:00pm. No worries if your late I'm setting the time early because people tend to come late anyway. Discussion starts at 7:30pm the meeting will official begin at 8:00pm as normal in k217.

There is a brownie points being assigned to people who show up to meetings and participate in club events as of right now it's just for fun/puns.

Next Meeting Discussion Topics:
Manga Discussion
Date for Anime Marathon "Mushishi"
Cosplay Character decided or assigned
Recruiting Ideas and Assignments
If evil martians attacked the earth what would you do? Just kidding! Checking if you are reading.
Short Note on the Club Challenge

Thats it for now!

P.S. OMFG I LOVE RPING NOW MY 2nd passion for life cause i'm such a nerd d(>.<)b

Hare Hare Yukai Dance Practice

I hope everyone had a good winter vacation!

I would like for us to perform the Hare Hare Yukai Dance from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya on the Lunar Festival, Feburary 23rd 2008. I'll be hosting practice this Saturday, hopefully in the California Room for space & labtop setup if not it will be a choice between the lounge in the Tuolumne Halls or the Dancing room in the Gym, whichever is open. Of course if enough people master the Hare Hare Yukai we can move to the Lucky Star Dance, which is equally hilarious.

I'd like our next anime meeting to be on Thursday, just because it fits well with my time constraints of my schedule. It is either Thursday or Monday and I so far only know one person who has a time conflict with Thursday nights. If anyone has a problem with Thursdays and hasn't already informed me, email me at dcastro5@ucmerced.edu on what times you are available.
