O.O MUST WIN Sushi!!!!!!

Dear UC Merced Club President and Advisor,

Allow me to introduce myself; as a new career counselor, I was excited to see the club and organization involvement by students at the UC Merced campus. Thus for the upcoming semester, Career Services would like to invite the clubs and organizations to a challenge. Career Services offers students many services and resources for career success and as a way to introduce your members to our services we have created a spring 2008 club challenge.
The club challenge will consist of a set of challenges relating to career planning. The first ten clubs to sign-up ten members each will be able to participate in the challenge. Our staff will keep tally sheets as the challenges are completed. Each team will be allowed a sub-list of two members as a back-up for absentee members or in case of emergencies. The set of challenges must be completed by each team member. Each challenge will be assessed points depending on the difficulty of the task (i.e. creating a resume vs. attending the Internship Fair).

Rules, details and the list of challenges will be posted by January 4, 2008. An email reminder will be issued on Jan. 21, 2008. Sign-ups will be accepted the week of Jan. 28-Feb. 1, 2008. Club members will be able to sign-up in the Career Services Center and at a table in OSL during the week of January 28th, 2008. The challenge will begin on February 4 and end on March 21, 2008 at midnight. During spring recess, scores will be tallied and we’ll award a grand prize to the highest scoring team. In the event of a tie, a tie-breaker will be presented. So, what is the incentive to tackle this challenge?

Grand Prize: A sushi-making party!

The winning team will be awarded a private sushi-making party hosted by Dining during an evening in the week of March 31st, 2008. The club advisor will be invited to attend. Master Chef, Mitch Vanagten, will teach sushi-making to the winning team. Other Japanese side dishes and non-alcoholic beverages will be served. Master Chef Mitch will also judge the “best-rolled sushi” and prizes will be awarded. It will be a memorable evening and a lot of fun!
In addition to the grand prize, the Office of Student Life will award monetary prizes ($200, $125, $75) for first through third places that your club may use for events. It just doesn’t get any better!

I invite your club to take up this challenge not only for the competition but for the valuable resources Career Services has to offer your members’ career success. Thank you for considering this challenge. Any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me at (209) 228-4587 or email at http://us.f526.mail.yahoo.com/ym/Compose?To=ljuergenson@ucmerced.edu.

Sincerely,

Lezly Juergenson, Career Counselor

1st Anime Club Screening Conclusion

Hey everyone! Yesterday went pretty smooth despite weird technical issues we managed to finish early XD. To those who couldn't make it try to watch The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya before the next meeting which will be the following thursday when we get back. I'll message everyone again to that meeting.

For Fandubbing Event I'll try to make sure I'm familiar with the programs needed during Christmas vacation, and people who want to do the Hare Hare Yukai dance familarize yourself with the dance, you can find it on youtube. We will start practice in January.
Next meeting we will discuss the following

Fandubbing Topics:
1. Interspace Battle between different animes with spaceships.
(Melancholy vs Captain Harlock vs Crest of the Stars etc....)
2. All the black cats in anime (sailor moon, Darker than Black, Pita Ten etc...)
3. Stop Male Abuse (covering all animes were the main character gets beat up by girls)
4. Killer toys from China (covering animes with dolls, Rozen maiden, Naruto, Bleach etc...)
5. Cute but deadly (covering animes with cute evil things...)

Any suggestions are welcome! Have a cool winter vacation! Good Luck on Finals!

1st Anime Club Screening Final Details

The date is this Saturday the 8th. The time is 4:00pm-10:45pm. You're free to come in earlier, We will be setting up at 3:30pm. The club isn't going to provide food. However, you can bring your own food and share food at the event just makes sure it doesn't get messy, we are responsible for any mess we make in the california room.

I'll have around 20 flyers basically copying the showlist I posted on the club website soabrigade.blogspot.com so feel free to take any whenyou come in.

We aren't allowed to bring anyone except club members so unless your 100% that the person is going to join the club don't bring more people. I'll have a sign insheet so we can keep track of people who attend. If you plan on attending late make sure to sign in.

The doors should be open but I plan on locking them around 5:00pm so random people can't comein and disrupt the screening so if your coming later than 5:00pm makesure to knock.
