AnImE(´・ω・`)ReHaSh (Japan Trip Included)

This is a recap on everything that has happened these last two meetings. We voted for new officers two weeks ago. The officers are:

President - Andrew
Vice President - Vinh
Secretary - Vallerie
Event Coordinator - Warren
Treasurer - Marian

We are having a water gun fight/get together on Saturday May 2nd at the Merced College. It will be a get together to cool off before finals week, which is the week after, so invite everyone you know ヾ(^∇^)! Also, there will be an anime(yet to be determined) showing on the same day so take your pick out of the ones here at operation anime:

http://www.operationanime.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=main.calendar

There will be a vote this coming Friday.

The anime showing this month is Samurai Seven on Saturday April 25th. The time and date are not finalized yet so this may change(waiting for the email that says "your are given the right to show this").

We're registered for the upcoming club competition by PAA called the Gauntlet on Sunday the 19th at 10:00am at the academic quad so come out and help us attack the other clubs! There will be props (boffer weapons) for people to hold and be making armbands for everyone there. The Gauntlet will consist of several rallies which can be as physically strainous as running to something akin to scramble where you make words out of a bunch of letters.

Our club flag will most likely not be ready by the Gauntlet. This is because Joan's in Merced does not sell sheet velcro which was what we decided to use for the flag. The flag will be completed at a later date when we(Me, Vinh, or K) get the material from a store that sells it (most likely when we decide to go home).

As for our club armbands I just need people to help me make them, since i'm a poor artist, so whoever is up for that just reply back to this email saying your up for it and your phone number if i don't already have it. I have time to drive people and make these things on Saturday or Friday after 2:30pm so I'll call the people who respond on friday then on saturday(if they aren't finished).

We discussed last meeting about having a group trip to Japan. One of our members (Ryan) has an Aunt who can give us discounts on airplane tickets to japan. Our goal for next year is the raise enough money to cover some of the costs of the tickets for everyone who helps fundraise and the rest we pay out of our own pockets. It will be a tour trip, where we stay a few nights and sightsee places in Japan. Ryan said he will get back to me on the cost so i'll update everyone as soon as i know how much it will cost everyone.

So until we meet again I'll be blasting off at the speed of light! (to the planet known as "studying for midterms")

Ouran Highschool Host Club & More!

Hey guys! Long time no email or something of the sort XD. So last weekend for the Cherry Blossom Festival was a big success(at least in my opinion). We sold about $37.35 worth of goodies that we received from Broccoli Books(R.I.P. They went out of business) and we still have a lot more left over. I let everyone who stayed for most of the event have one of the goodies for free. Noemi your counted in too! For all the stuff you've done for the Cherry Blossom tree.

Last Meeting we talked about several things mostly about organization of the club to the fact that we are showing Ouran Highschool Host Club this Saturday in the California Room! At 8:00pm-11:00pm(Only time slot I could get us on Saturday).

I need some people to make posters for this event. Even though its a bit late of a notice (since I just got the disks today). If you are not sure how to make posters all you have to do is ask the people at the front office of the OSL (Office of Student Life) and they will guide you through the process. Its completely free and they offer all the materials except for Blue Tape(which we have). Other than posters it would be nice to have some notificiations in the D.C. such as small paplets, but anyone who wants to do that just be sure to ask permission from the D.C. before you put anything up.

A few things I'll address quickly.

Ryan I gave you admin powers for the Anime Club blogspot at soabrigade.blogspot.com just log in.

Anyone who wants to finish Densha Otoko(Highly recommend live drama for anime lovers) come to the meeting as we need to set a time for everyone to finish the last 6 episode.

I want a boffer fight. Everyone who did the boffer fight last time come to the meeting so we can discuss further bashage. For people who don't know what Boffers are, they are basically foam with pvc tube weapons. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AC71THvqC-U. I suggest we make daggers as with swords we've been having problems with the claymores.

For current officers(includes everyone Vinh, Melanie, Matthew, Cathy) and anyone who is interested in being an officer for next year please be at this meeting. I've entered in our club for the Filipino Culture Club's Gauntlet and we need to meet up with their representative sometime soon. The event itself is in April which is approaching fast. For everyone's consideration, the Gauntlet is basically a club competition doing rally races and all sorts of fun activities. Last year our club won 3rd place (despite being so small and being so new. It was cool because we also got everyone to chant pikachu)

And lastly meetings are still on Fridays from 7:00pm-8:30pm in COB 110. There have been some talk (I won't say whooo), but some confusion on the day and times of our meetings. So advertisment we shall do. Go forth poster section! I choose you! *Points to Andrew, Justing(Your drawings were awesome), and anyone else I have yet to mention *Imposing Glare* <(O.O)>

SOA Brigade Update!

Okay, Darwin here, just a few announcements. We are moving our meeting times back to the 7:00pm-8:30pm time slot on Fridays at COB 110.

Tomorrow I'll be submitting the following names for the Sushi Competition: Darwin (Me) , Vinh, Asher, Andrew, Cecilia, Melanie, Justin, Andrew, Ryan Tong, Warren, Marian and K. It'd be ideal for us to have at 15 and we can add an extra 2 more for a total of 17(incase one of us drops out the extra 2 can take our spots). So if you are interested in competing give me an email and I'll add you to the list.

Basically, for the sushi competition we fill out a bunch of applications etc...like resumes and going to career fairs and earn points. At the end of the competition the winner gets a sushi party and some cash for the club XD.

P.S. Tong I'll be sending you the rules and stuff in a seperate email.

I've assigned a schemes (things to do) to some of our members last meeting such as:
Weekly Poster Group(Setting up posters informing people of our meeting times every week)
Tong
Justin

Selling/Showing Anime Group(Selling things and showing our several hundred trailers, from Funimation via library laptop, in front of the OSL.)
Andrew
Marian

Maintaining Club Website(Just repasting everything I send to everyone in the emails. Our club website is soabrigade.blogspot.com incase anyone was wondering.)
Ryan

P.S. Ryan you still need to send meh teh gmail you'll be using (^.^)

For the Spring Cherry Blossom Festival we are working with the Nikkei Union(Japanse Culture Club). I'm going to need a few people(at least two) to go to some of their meetings and keep them and us updated on our plans. If I remember correctly(I could be wrong so don't trust me 100% on this) they meet on Thursday's from 7:30pm-whenever(most likely ends before 9) in COB 263.

Also, we agreed upon watching Densha Otoko (the whole series) at Ryan's house next Saturday the 7th after 5:00pm. It's a hilarious live action drama that is a must see for anime fans. The premise is about a Otaku and his struggles in love and life.

That's it for now see you guys on Friday (X.X).

Updates and Meeting Time

Alright, so a few updates. We are going to be meeting today at 7:00pm in the green room/lounge area of library on the third floor. Being on a little bit of a short notice I couldn't reserve a room so we'll make do with whats there. This is going to be our last meeting since next week people will have finals to study for.

I've decided not to do another public screening for December, but instead I'd rather have it be a club thing where everyone interested would go my house or the lounge area of Madara or Tuolumne to marathon through a series.

It's just too much of a hassle to get permission on such a short notice, especially with finals coming up soon I doubt that anyone outside the club would even show up to the screening, which would defeat the purpose of getting permission in the first place.

I do, however, want to talk to everyone in the groups to outline a general plan for next year on what we want to get done. As I said before I plan on making the series we are making a multi-year project and the AnimeExpo planning finalized, which will be our two major topics for this meeting. Incase we don't finish the AnimeExpo planning today I suggest everyone who wants to go together get aol instant messanger (aim) if they haven't already and schedule days were we can all get online and finish the plan.

If I didn't mention it before, SacAnime Convention is coming up. It's a convention hoisted at Scottish Rite Center 6151 H Street (Near CSUS). It's a small convention, but it will have the english voice actors Vic Mignogna who is the voice of Edward Elric from Full Metal Alchemist and now the english voice of Tamaki from Ouran High School, Laura Bailey who does the voice of Lust in Full Metal Alchemist and Tohru Honda from Fruits Basket, and Travis Willingham who does the voice of Roy Mustang and Ginko from Mushishi.

They do have interesting schedule set up to keep everyone from getting bored though I'd have to admit without friends it can get boring really fast.

P.S. Good luck on finals (O.O) Kirby knows your pain.

Fruits Basket Screening & More! (^.^)

Hey Guys! This is Darwin your club president. I apologize for the late notice, but just a reminder we are having a Fruits Basket showing in the california room for the first five episodes from 5:00pm to 8:00pm contrary to the 6:00pm-8:30pm we posted on the flyers. It's was a change from the Housing office so yup, we are bumped up a little bit.

Also while on the topic for screenings, we are planning on showing Full Metal Panic Fumoffu on the first week of December, but incase we can't get the rights we'll show Gunslinger girl instead. I think we are allowed to show episodes during the anime club meetings, but I'll do a bit more digging into the club membership we are in. So far we've been showing a large amount of trailers we got from the RightStuf program for the general meetings.

Also there will be no manga meeting this week since we are showing the screening today!
P.S. People still interested in the film group I'll be doing some practice mock fights this Sunday for the film meeting in the den at 3:00pm.

P.P.S. Have a good thanksgiving d(^.^)b

Anime Club Updates

So, rehashing on everything that has happened. We'll be having marathons I suppose whenever we have free time. So far the marathons have just been decided at the meetings. I plan on having a public marathon in November 15th of the firsts three episodes fruits baskets. Also we are now part of the funimation anime club program! Ya! XD, so we'll be getting dvds each month to show for screenings.

Other then that the series that the club is working on is coming along quite nicely, we've finished most of the first episode, and I've outlined the second episode. I've talked with the Martial Arts club over the boffer weapons and they were willing to help set up an event were we would teach people how to use weapons.

Just on a sidenote for the film group, we have storyboard meetings on Saturday from 3:00pm onward during manga discussion in the den if it's available. That's it for now! XD.

4th Anime Club Meeting

Hey Everyone! So updates from this meeting, we are going to start casting for the film group so anyone who wants to be in the film we need you guys to come to the meetings within the next two weeks or else...you'll be an "extra" <(O.O)>. The storyline right now is a complicate plotline involving a freshmen entering college and the three clans that control the campus.

Next week the Nikkei Union will be doing the sushi night so whomever can come help out for that please come! It's on Wednesday from 7:00pm-9:00pm. We will be making sushi and selling them to whomever comes.

Dance group will be meeting after every general meeting, I'd like to showcase our dance whenever we are ready, hopefully before the end of this semester! I was thinking of doing a progressive thing where we show each meeting how funny we are in the beginning and near the end how awesome we get after practice XD.

I'll be attempting to update our unofficial boffer group to official status within the next few weeks that way it'll be part of our club activities. It would be cool to wack each other for a club activity right? Haha, well hopefully, I would like to get something like this http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=WL--yVDLDcc going on where we have large scale battles! And maybe renact some anime fights along the way XD.

We did mention having a guest speaker for an information night, where they would present the history of anime and answer any questions anyone has about the genre. I think it would work out since a lot of people at school still don't know what anime is!

Also! I thought it be interesting to have an anime game night! We could spice up the games by adding some fighting games and maybe get some DDR for some of the meeting! Haha, well DDR is sortive in anime ---> Yugioh reference. I'm sure somewhere along the way we'll be having prizes like plushies for competitions XD.

Hm...oh! So one of our members was kind enough to give the club a lot of manga to sell for fundraising. When I get around to it I'll put a list up, but...it's a lot! I'll be bringing some to next meeting to auction off(hehe) at the next meeting. They each cost 4$ (O.O)

<(O.O)> I'm forgetting something again. Can't remember!!! Ahhh!!! <(O.o)>
Well, if I remember I'll update everyone.

Oh, Marathon! >.> Not quite what I forgot, but important nevertheless. I'm thinking of splitting the marathon into two groups on seperate days. The next meeting we'll be having sign ups for which days are best for you. The days I'm planning on having it are next week on Saturday and Sunday at someone's dorm. These days aren't set, however, so if we find enough people free on Tuesday or Thursday we might move it there or move it next a week if people want it next week. If you can't make it to the meeting email us which day your available to watch 5-6 hours of anime. We'll be going through the anime called Minami-ke for this month's marathon.

I'll keep you guys update on the location of the marathon as time passes along so check your email and our website! Whew, that wasn't too bad for this week XD.

Sincerely,
President of the SOA Brigade "Who can also dance like a girl if needed"
Darwin Castro
